Math for Spinners

Prerequisite: Beginning Spinning or equivalent

Using a small amount of sampling and a bit of math before starting a big spin can make a huge difference between headache and back to the meditative process. Discover methods of measuring our handspun yarn samples to be used to calculate how much fiber is required for a given project. Students will be taken through sampling exercises on their wheels/spindles and introduced to specialty tools for measuring their yarns. The structural characteristics of fibers and ply will also be covered. All materials provided.
